What was the issue? Her previous organization guarantees that she had a non-contend understanding that expressed she can't contact previous partners and clients. This claim is the first of its sort, and it is relied upon to make point of reference with respect to long range interpersonal communication and non-contend agreements. Here are a couple of different ways LinkedIn can put clients on unstable ground.Account OwnershipWhen you make a record on LinkedIn, connect it to an individual email address as opposed to an organization email. On the off chance that the record is connected to an organization address, the organization may guarantee that the contacts have a place with them and not permit you to approach your record on the off chance that you leave the employer.EndorsementsFor decades, numerous organizations have had an unmistakable strategy that restricts representatives from giving individual references for individuals they have worked with at that organization. At the point when managers check references on an expected recruit, they are regularly rerouted to the companys HR division where restricted data, for example, work titles and dates of business are shared. With the approach of new internet based life arrangements, I think its simply a question of time before organizations formalize their strategies around giving LinkedIn proposals since they dont need to be burdened with the potential obligation these suggestions can create.Profile InformationThinking of modifying work titles on your LinkedIn profile or decorating reality? We Talk About Engagement We Talk About Turnover. Why Cant We Talk About This

Marla Gottschalk Empowered Work Requires a Strong Foundation We Talk About Engagement. We Talk About Turnover. Why Can’t We Talk About This? Please note: This post first appeared at Linkedin In this ever-altering world of work & organizations â€" I’m going to go out on a proverbial limb and vote for stability. Not the kind of stability that shoots you within the foot and has the potential to signal an organizational downfall (resting on laurels, complacency, lack of customer connection). I’m talking of the kind of internal stability that permits your group’s engines to essentially rev and take flight. The kind of security borne of trust and understanding. It lives within the group’s cultural core. The concept might sound a bit esoteric and troublesome to understand. Never the less, discussing its presence is significant. It is important because great workers do not simply go away bad bosses â€" they run, when attainable, from an unhealthy culture. We have wrung our arms over varied constructs that swirl around that core; engagement; turnover; commitment; loyalty. However, if we do not first take purpose to have an effect on our cultural core, ahead progress is stymied. There is a degree of stability needed for organizations â€" and the individuals within them â€" to thrive. We must address this. Communication = Energy One factor stays salient (no less than from my perspective). You can’t positively affect your group’s cultural core without bringing your staff alongside. There has to be trust. There must be communication. There must be the recognition that your persons are your group. How your traditions, mores and accepted processes have an effect on them is important. These collectively form your culture. People present the vitality to start out the organizational engines. If the mission of your group is misunderstood or mistranslated, your cultural core â€" so to talk â€" is weakened. Sometimes we merely neglect people and we run ahead without them. We forget to ask if they're still “with us”. Or they were never on board to begin with. Same distinction. We all lose. We didn’t eve n bother to ask. Shame on us. We then should circle again with great haste. Creating Safety This kind of stability calls for open conversations about how the work is finished, the targets and the direction we're touring. It requires a conversation about progress and career. It also requires planning for the long run (competency-sensible) â€" even if that future is a tad fuzzy. I would hypothesize that for the period time earlier than nice success or innovation, the group was doubtless secure in some sense at the core â€" and this offers a sense of security (moral management, strong teams, sufficient resources, and so forth.) It may seem that successes are borne from one Eureka second â€" but there was probably a protected core there. People absolutely understood they were “culturally” secure they usually were free to seek excellence. Even with the whirlwind of activity round them in the external setting, that constructed stability was present. Here are 6 elements to remember whe n building out the core of your team or group: From your perspective, how does an organization’s core have an effect on work life? Share that below. Dr. Marla Gottschalk is an Industrial/Organizational Psychologist. She is a charter member of the LinkedIn Influencer Program. Her ideas on work life have appeared in various outlets including Talent Zoo, Forbes, Quartz and The Huffington Post. Post navigation One thought on “We Talk About Engagement. We Talk About Turnover. Why Can’t We Talk About This? ” I agree together with your opinion. Marla, however one of the necessary issues in organizational culture, the important thing factor is within the mindset of the stakeholders in managing the corporate and its shareholders as the stakeholder’s management. Do they really take into consideration the pursuits of growth and improvement of the corporate or simply put their ego on the road, then when that looks simply their egos, what's the reaction of the shareholders over the occasion / event …..? If they are involved with the company then the 6 components in your opinion actually apply in actual, if that happens when ego kepentinga the core of your resentment that materialize. all staff haven't any authority in administration, they will only comply with the provisions made by the stakeholders. So the conclusion, mindset, assessment and lively position of the shareholder, decide the control and pengelolahan firm. Machine Learning is one such core skill that helps companies fulfill it. However, to get started, you need to build your foundations right. So, in this article, I will cover a few basic concepts and provide you with guidelines to start your journey in Machine Learning. So, in this article on statistics for machine learning, the following topics will be discussed:ProbabilityWhat is Probability?IndependenceBayes Rule Conditional ProbabilityStatisticsCentrality measures and measures of spreadsNormal DistributionLinear AlgebraMatrix Matrix OperationsProbability and Statistics For Machine Learning:What is Probability?Probability quantifies the likelihood of an event occurring. For example, if you roll a fair, unbiased die, then the probability of 1 turning up is 1/6. Now, if you are wondering why? Then the answer is quite simple! This is because there are six possibilities and all are equally likely (fair die). Therefore we can add 1+1+1+1+1+1 = 6. But, since we are interested in the event where 1 turns up. There is only one way the event can occur. Therefore,Probability of 1 turning up = 1/6Similar is the case with all other numbers as all the events are equally likely. Simple, right? Well, a frequentist definition of probability for this example would sound like the probability of 1 turning up is the ratio of the number of times 1 turned up to the total number of times the die was rolled if the die was rolled an infinite number of times. How does this make sense? Lets make it more interesting. Consider the two cases you rolled a fair die 5 times. In one case the sequence of numbers turning up is [1,4,2,6,4,3]. In the other case, we get [2,2,2,2,2,2]. Which one do you think is more likely? Both are equally likely. Seems odd right? Now, consider another case where all the 5 rolls in each case are independ ent. Meaning, one roll doesnt affect the other. In the first case, when 6 turns up, it had no idea that 2 turned up before it. Hence, all 5 rolls are equally likely.Similarly, the straight 2s in the second case can be understood as a sequence of independent events. And all these events are equally likely. Overall, since we have the same dice, the probability of a particular number turning up in case one is the same as case two. Next, in this article on statistics for machine learning, let us understand the term Independence.IndependenceTwo events A and B are said to be independent if the occurrence of A does not affect event B. For example, if you toss a coin and roll a die, the outcome of the die has no effect on whether the coin shows heads or tails. Also, for two independent events A and B, the probability that A and B can occur together. So for example, if you want the probability that coin shows heads and die shows 3. P(A and B) = P(A)*P(B)Therefore P = (probability of heads t urning up) * (probability of 3 turning up) = 1/12In the previous example, for both the cases, P = * * * * * .Now lets talk about events that are not independent. Consider the following table:ObeseNot ObeseHeart Problems4515No heart problems1030A survey of 100 people was taken. 60 had heart problems and 40 didnt. Of the 60 having a heart problem, 45 were obese. Of the 40 having no heart problem, 10 were obese. If someone asks you What is the probability of having a heart problem? What is the probability of having a heart problem and not being obese? The answer to the first questions is easy 60/100. For the second one, it would be 15/100. Now consider the third question A person was picked at random. He was found to have heart disease. What is the probability that he is obese? Now think about the information given to you It is known that he has heart disease. Therefore he cannot be from the 40 who dont have heart disease. There are only 60 possible options (the top row in the table) . Now, among these reduced possibilities, the probability that he is obese is 45/60. Now, that you have known, what are independent events, next in this article on statistics for machine learning, let us understand Conditional Probabilities.Conditional ProbabilitiesTo understand conditional probabilities, lets continue our discussion with the above example. Status of being obese and the status of having suffered from heart problem is not independent. If being obese did not affect heart problems, then the number of obese and non-obese cases for people having heart problems would have been the same. Also, we were given that the person has heart problems and we had to find out the probability that he is obese. So, the probability, in this case, is said to be conditioned on the fact that he has a heart problem. If the probability of event A occurring is conditioned on event B, we represent it asP(A|B)Now, there is a theorem that helps us calculate this conditional probability. It is call ed the Bayes Rule.P(A|B) =P(A and B)/P(B)You can check this theorem by plugging the example we just discussed. If you have understood so far, you can get started with the following Machine Learning Algorithm Naive Bayes. It uses conditional probabilities to classify whether an email is a spam or not. It can perform many other classification tasks. But essentially, conditional probability is at the heart of Naive Bayes.Statistics:Statistics are used to summarize and make inferences about a large number of data points. In Data Science and Machine Learning, you will often come across the following terminologyCentrality measuresDistributions (especially normal)Centrality measures and measures of spreadsMean: Mean is just an average of numbers. To find out mean, you have to sum the numbers and divide it with the number of numbers. For example, the mean of [1,2,3,4,5] is 15/5 = 3.Median: Median is the middle element of a set of numbers when they are arranged in ascending order. For examp le, numbers [1,2,4,3,5] are arranged in an ascending order [1,2,3,4,5]. The middle one of these is 3. Therefore the median is 3. But what if the number of numbers is even and therefore has no middle number? In that case, you take the average of the two middle-most numbers. For a sequence of 2n numbers in ascending order, average the nth and (n+1)th number to get the median. Example [1,2,3,4,5,6] has the median (3+4)/2 = 3.5Mode: Mode is simply the most frequent number in a set of numbers. For example, mode of [1,2,3,3,4,5,5,5] is 5.Variance: Variance is not a centrality measure. It measures how your data is spread around the mean. It is quantified asx is the mean of N numbers. You take a point, subtract the mean, take the square of this difference. Do this for all N numbers and average them. The square root of the variance is called the standard deviation. Next, in this article on statistics for machine learning, let us understand Normal Distribution.Normal DistributionDistribution helps us understand how our data is spread. For example, in a sample of ages, we may have young people more than older adults and hence smaller values of age more than greater values. But how do we define a distribution? Consider the example belowThe y-axis represents the density. The mode of this distribution is 30 since it is the peak and hence most frequent. We can also locate the median. Median lies at the point on the x-axis where half of the area under the curve is covered. The area under any normal distribution is 1 because the sum of probabilities of all events is 1. For example,Median in the above case is around 4. This means that area under the curve before 4 is the same as that after 4. Consider another exampleWe see three normal distributions. The blue and red ones have the same mean. The red one has a greater variance. Hence, it is more spread out than the blue one. But since the area has to be 1, the peak of the red curve is shorter than the blue curve, to keep the ar ea constant.Hope you understood the basic statistics and normal distributions. Now, next in this article on statistics for machine learning, let us learn about Linear Algebra.Linear AlgebraModern AI would not be possible without Linear Algebra. It forms the core of Deep Learning and has been used even in simple algorithms like Linear Regression. Without any further delay, lets get started. You must be familiar with vectors. They are a kind of geometrical representations in space. For example, a vector [3,4] has 3 units along the x-axis and 4 units along the y-axis. Consider the following image Vector d1 has 0.707 units along the x-axis and 0.707 units along the y-axis. A vector has 1 dimension. It necessarily has a magnitude and a direction. For example,The above image has a vector (4,3). Its magnitude is 5 and it makes 36.9 degrees with the x-axis.Now, what is a matrix? Matrix is a multi-dimensional array of numbers. Whats it used for? Well see ahead. But first, lets look at how it is used.MatrixA matrix can have many dimensions. Lets consider a 2-dimensional matrix. It has rows (m) and columns (n). Therefore it has m*n elements. For example,This matrix has 5 rows and 5 columns. Lets call it A. Therefore A(2,3) is the entry at the second row and third column which is 8.Now, that you know what is a matrix, lets us look into the different operations of matrix.Matrix OperationsAddition of MatricesTwo matrices of the same dimensions can be added. The addition happens element-wise.Scalar MultiplicationA matrix can be multiplied by a scalar quantity. Such a multiplication leads to every entry in the matrix getting multiplied by the scalar. A scalar is just a numberMatrix TransposeMatrix transpose is simple. For a matrix A(m,n), let A be its transpose. ThenA'(i,j) = A(j,i)For example,Matrix MultiplicationThis is probably a bit tricky than other operations. Before we dive into it, lets define dot product between two vectors. Consider vector X = [1,4,6,0] and vector Y = [2,3,4,5]. Then dot product between X and Y is defined asX.Y = 1*2 + 4*3 + 6*4 + 0*5 = 38So, it is element-wise multiplication and addition. Now, lets consider two matrices A(m,n) and B(n,k), where m,n,k are dimensions and hence integers. We define matrix multiplication asIn the above example, the first element of the product (44) is obtained by the dot product of the first row of the left matrix with the first column of the right matrix. Similarly, 72 is obtained by the dot product of the first row of the left matrix with the second column of the right matrix.Note that for the left matrix, the number of columns should be equal to the number of rows in the right column. In our case, the product AB exists but not BA since m is not equal to k. For two matrices A(m,n) and B(n,k), the product AB is defined and the dimension of the product is (m,k) (the outer most dimensions of (m,n),(n,k)). But BA is not defined unless m = k.With this, we come to an end to this article on Statistics fo r Machine Learning. I hope you have some understood some of the Machine Learning Jargon. It doesnt end here though. To make sure you are industry-ready, you can check out Edurekas courses on Data Science and AI. Be that as it may, Dr. Olivia isn't a specialist, or even a human-she's a Staffordshire terrier named Ollie. So how did the eager end up on the article sheets of seven worldwide clinical journals?Dog days of academiaOllie's proprietor, Professor Mike Daube (allegedly of Curtin University) chose to test how cautiously a few diaries investigated their publication analysts, by imagining Dr. Doll and making up her credentials. Australian distribution PerthNow reported Curtin's story.Though Dr. Olivia Doll's profile plainly demonstrates she's not a genuine person, Daube said that the large diaries didn't discover her out.Check out, for example, Ollie's current posting as a proofreader for the Global Journal of Addiction and Rehabilitation Medicine. As per the diary, Dr Doll is from the Subiaco College of Vet erinary Science in Australia. Furthermore, her inclinations are a little odd.Avian propinquity to canines in metropolitan rural areas; Relationships between Doberman Pinschers and Staffordshire Terriers in residential conditions; The job of household canines in advancing ideal psychological wellness in maturing guys; The effect of skateboards on canine ambulation; The advantages of stomach knead for medium-sized canines; Implications for canine and equine creatures of interest in betting games; Accidental medication use by Staffordshire Terriers in a side of the road setting; Passive presentation of canines to liquor exhaust in the local condition, her depiction reads. How a long way from understanding Ollie's character were the diaries? All things considered, the puppy was even reached to say something regarding tumor the board paper - maybe too modern a subject for a pup. A nose for newsThe little guy is being included in an all the more profoundly respected content called the Medi cal Journal of Australia's Insight magazine, which supposedly is taking a gander at the flood in diaries which charge frantic would-be analysts up to $3000 to get their investigations published.Professor Daube spoke about the message he plans to send with his experiment. While this began as something happy, I think it is critical to uncover tricks of this sort which go after the guileless, particularly youthful or gullible scholastics and those from creating nations, Professor Daube told the publication. It appears as though every purported scholarly diary isn't made equivalent. How to Conduct an International Phone Interview

Step by step instructions to Conduct an International Phone Interview Step by step instructions to Conduct an International Phone Interview On the off chance that youre work looking while in an outside nation, searching for an occupation abroad, or seeking after a global position, correspondence can immediately get confused. Despite the fact that email, the Internet, and cell phones make the procedure somewhat simpler, its still precarious to facilitate a meeting time that works for the two gatherings. There will be coordinations to organize including how youre going to speak with the business, booking a meeting around various time zones, and, similarly as with any meeting, getting readied to expert it. Notwithstanding, theres a silver coating: investing the additional energy in to organize a worldwide meeting establishes an extraordinary first connection with your potential manager. Here are a few hints on the most proficient method to organize a worldwide telephone meet. Step up to the plate and Figure out a Time That Works Dont state, I cannot make sense of these time zones; simply let me know when you locate a decent time. Rather, willingly volunteer to concoct a choice of sensible dates and times. Your potential manager will be intrigued on the off chance that you offer your own accessibility while likewise indicating the comparable time in their area. Utilize a Time Zone Converter You dont need to do the math to make sense of time contrasts! What's more, you dont need to hazard precision - simply utilize a period zone converter. The Time Zone Converter is free, simple to utilize, and functions admirably. Be Mindful of Days, Too In the event that youre working with a significant time distinction - Australia to the United States, for instance - you need to factor in what day it is. Since the time distinction is so tremendous, Americas Friday-a business day-is Australias Saturday. Its essential to recollect these inconsistencies when masterminding a meeting. Be as Flexible as could reasonably be expected Theres an awesome possibility youll need to get up an hour or two early, put off your mid-day break, or remain up somewhat late, however the more adaptable you can be, the better, as it shows your questioner exactly how intrigued you are in the activity. Put a Smile On Regardless of whether its the center of the night and youre depleted, polished skill is as yet key. Smother your yawns (or have some espresso!) and be charming and neighborly, as though it were a totally ordinary hour. Abstain from whining about the time distinction or trouble of orchestrating the meeting, and rather, thank your questioner for investing the push to arrange a chance to talk. In case You're Using a Phone, Test It out Before the Interview Worldwide calling is precarious. Some telephone plans dont even permit worldwide calls, and others require the utilization of a nation code. To keep away from any very late blunders, test your telephone out a couple of days before the meeting, so you have the opportunity to sift through any issues before the meeting. In the event that youre utilizing a pay-more only as costs arise telephone, ensure you have enough credit to make a worldwide call and to keep the association! Utilize Apps On the off chance that you have a cell phone and can get WiFi, consider utilizing an application or VoIP administration to decide. Many are more affordable than conventional calls or even free. Be Smart About Video Interviews On the off chance that you have a video talk with, ensure you are dressed expertly, similarly as you would be in an in-person meet. Its additionally essential to check your environmental factors you dont need to be sitting in a chaotic room or messy kitchen. Download and set up Skype, or whichever video application youre utilizing, a long time before the meeting, and furthermore be careful when youre making a username. It ought to be proficient, much the same as an email address. Remember to Follow Up Its essential to catch up similarly as you would with some other questioner. What a 4-Year-old Can Teach You About Managing Your Boss - Work It Daily This is valid: My 4-year-old is talented at overseeing up. Accomplishes she work? No - yet from my perspective, at the present time, I'm the chief and she's a worker in our family firm. Furthermore, I've seen she's gotten very capable at getting what she needs from upper administration. If it's not too much trouble know, I'm no push-over. I hold fast on the significant issues like 'no popsicles for breakfast' and 'socks are not discretionary when it's 2 degrees outside.' But on the fuzzier stuff, I should yield she's aced the specialty of influence. Thus, it happened to me we could all gain from her ability. Consider these three strategies as performed by my diminutive worker: 1. Figure out how to state 'no' disarmingly. At the point when my little girl wouldn't like to accomplish something, she gazes profoundly in my eyes and with an 'I'm so sorry to baffle you' grin, smoothly says forget about it. It loses me without fail. To begin with, the 'thank you' is so amenable, who can reprimand that? Also, second, her non-verbal communication and outward appearances are delicate and non-fierce. It's difficult to react adversely to somebody who is showing no displeasure or pressure of their own. Interpretation: Employees who figure out how to participate in strife without encounter are acknowledged for their quiet correspondences aptitudes by the board. 2. At the point when you need something, be a sweet yet noisy wheel. When my little girl has chosen she needs something, this is what she does. To begin with, she requests your time and reveals to you it's not kidding. She sits directly down and holds your consideration with her eyes. At that point, she clarifies in detail what she needs and why it is so significant she have it. She is fiery and enthusiastic in her portrayal. Presently, in the event that she doesn't get it, she inquires as to why. Also, in the event that she doesn't care for the appropriate response, she says no more and leaves. Be that as it may, that is not the finish of it! Presently, she returns, having mindfully considered my forswearing and prepared to additionally clarify extra explanations behind me to adjust my perspective, just as reasons why my own contention doesn't stand any kind of test. Also, in the event that I state 'no' once more, she seriously leaves, holds up some time, and afterward returns again and requests something very similar in a marginally unique manner, t rusting her ability to bargain will pay off. Now, she watches me eagerly for signs I am going to either A) collapse and let her success, or B) begin to speak loudly and blow up. In the event that it's the last mentioned, she quickly throws in the towel â€" for the afternoon. She knows exactly how far to cause trouble and has no issue trusting that a superior time will attempt once more. She doesn't hold resentment, she remains glad and playful, as though nothing has occurred. In her psyche, it's a minor difficulty, rather than a devastating misfortune. This methodology consistently makes me need to have the option to state 'yes' to her next solicitation since I'm intrigued to such an extent that she acknowledged the 'no' without causing a ruckus. Interpretation: Employees who calmly advance their motivation and can acknowledge a negative choice effortlessly are regarded and esteemed by the board. 3. Utilize surprising acknowledgment as an approach to score focuses. My little girl doesn't adulate me. She doesn't spout with praises with an end goal to get what she needs. In any case, from time to time, arbitrarily, she will say or accomplish something that causes me to feel astounding. At some point, when I was particularly disappointed and feeling overpowered by all I needed to do, she took a gander at me with a merciful face and basically stated, It must be difficult to be a mother. Ironically, it's actually not so much as a commendation. She didn't need to lie and state she thought I was an extraordinary mama. I wouldn't anticipate that her should. I'm the standard implementer - who prefers that? In any case, she recognized the trouble of my job and that acknowledgment felt great. To such an extent, I counteracted an arrangement and took her for dessert. Interpretation: Employees who pass on their regard and thankfulness for the degree of obligation and endeavors of the executives are viewed as acceptable cooperative people. These are only a couple of the ways that my 4-year-old deals with her chief. Why not check out them? With a little practice, you could be overseeing up with the artfulness of a pre-schooler while receiving the benefits offered to astute representatives. 5 Must Haves for an Effective Cover Letter

5 Must Haves for an Effective Cover Letter We know how it goes. You can arrangement and reconsider your resume throughout the day, yet with regards to composing a powerful introductory letter, you stay there taking a gander at a clear Word record and pondering where to begin. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-advertisement 1467144145037-0'); }); When you separate the life systems of an extraordinary introductory letter, it's extremely only an augmentation of your resume that gets explicit concerning why you're keen on the position and what makes you qualified to fill it.The group at ResumeSpice, a resume composing and vocation instructing administration created by spotters, has assembled a rundown of five things to remember when assembling an incredible spread letter. 1. Fitting length, designing, and fontsJust like your resume, you would prefer not to over adapt your introductory letter or go insane with the text styles. Pick an expert textual style that is anything but difficult to-peruse and keep e verything left-aligned.Your introductory letter isn't a proclamation. It's a concise presentation that can give a superior feeling of what your identity is. We suggest that it's no longer than a page â€" stick to 3-4 paragraphs. 2. A fitting addresseeA introductory letter is intended to draw the employing director or scout in, so starting your letter with To Whom It May Concern, puts separation among you and the reader. You can approach your enrollment specialist for the employing supervisor's name â€" or on the off chance that you don't have a selection representative, do a little research on LinkedIn. Also, if that doesn't work, call into the organization and approach who is recruiting for that job. In any case, don't give your name â€" most recruiting administrators disapprove of applicants bringing in, so ensure your call remains under the radar.3. EnthusiasmYou applied to the situation on purpose. Take a gander at the expected set of responsibilities and choose what energized yo u about it. In the event that you sensed that you were an ideal match, say it! You may compose something like, As an interchanges proficient with more than eight years of involvement with PR, the PR Advisor job felt like it was composed only for me.4. A NarrativeThis is the meat of your introductory letter. This is the place you'll expound on why you're keen on the position, what makes you an extraordinary fit, and what you can explicitly bring to the table. For this piece, it's useful to again glance back at the set of working responsibilities and pick 2-3 things that you have solid experience in.If you're going after an interchanges position, some portion of your story may peruse this way: My capacity to speak with each partner, just as my broad involvement in PR emergency the board make me a solid contender for the Communications Director role.5. Spotlights on the worker's needsWe must pressure this as much as possible â€" your introductory letter isn't generally about you. Indee d, it's about your aptitudes, achievements, and experience that make you an extraordinary fit, yet it's extremely about how the entirety of that will profit the business. With that in mind, avoid whatever specifies your very own benefit should you work there. For instance, you'll need to nix anything in your introductory letter that seems like: I've for the longest time been itching to work in an administration job, so this open door is an ideal method to accomplish my goals.Putting together a solid introductory letter can be a troublesome errand on the off chance that you've never thought of one. Ensure you keep your introductory letter pertinent to the activity and the business, however don't be reluctant to act naturally and show your energy about the organization or the position. Lemons, Job Seekers Opportunities

Lemons, Job Seekers Opportunities I like reading success stories so an artilcle on AOL titled Richest Americans Youve Never Heard Of piqued  my interest.  Maybe its too cinderalla or pollyanna, but I found something interesting in the article.  It talks about: Fred Deluca, who opened his first Subway (not called Subway back then) store when he was 17, as well as his investor, Peter Buck, who invested $1,000 to get Fred started.  They are both worth 1.8 BILLION today (good investment, eh?) Jack Crawford Taylor (rich people get their entire name used, apparently), who started Enterprise Rent-a-Car (not called that back then) in 1957. His net worth is 7 billion. David Murdock, who dropped out of high school and now is the chariman of Dole (the food company).  Worth 2.5 billion. Min Kao and Gary Burrell, the founders of Garmin (think: GPS) just a few years ago in 1989.  One is worth 1.6 billion and the other is just worth 1 billion. Clayton Mathile who joined Iams (pet food) in 1970 and became the CEO and chairman, eventually purchasing the entire company.  Worth 1.7 billion. Donald Hall, chairman of Hallmark (son of the founder).  Worth 1 billion. Truett Cathy, owner of Chick-fil-A, worth 1.5 billion. I read his autobiography (delighful). Daniel Abraham, the guy who invented Slim-Mint gum and later launched Slim-Fast, which was sold to Unilever for 2.3 billion. Daniel is now worth of 1.6 billion. William Kellogg, who was a store manager at Kohls and eventually become the chairman (good career path, eh?).  Hes worth 1 billion. As I was reading the brief stories about these people who are worth more money than I can imagine I thought about their early days. What did they have in common (except for Hall, who was born in the family business)? They took risks. It wasnt always glamorous. They (probably) went through some very hard times, personally. Some of them may have borrowed and leveraged themselves beyond what they should have (or, more than what any family or advisors told them). They were probably lonely many times, working towards a vision that only they understood. We may see billionaires today but we werent with them 20 or 50 years ago when they were struggling, trying to find purpose, believe in a vision, etc. Right now YOU are struggling, trying to find purpose, believe in the vision of who you are, etc. DO NOT GIVE UP.  Even if you are a hundredaire or a thousandaire right now you have a journey ahead of you that will take you to different places.   It might not be money that you are after, but if you are in a place where you feel you cant make a difference, and you want to, just keep on the journey, one foot in front of the other, and youll get there you just have to get through some hard times (and these wont be the last of them). What You Need to Know About Advanced Placement Resume Writing

What You Need to Know About Advanced Placement Resume WritingAdvanced placement course work is a well-known method of quantifying potential in college admissions. It's the process by which colleges determine the best and brightest high school students to go into a particular program, as well as the ones who are likely to benefit from it the most. It's a process that can require more effort from applicants than standard college applications. That is why it's very important for those considering taking an advanced placement course or coursework to take the time to be prepared and to understand the application process.Placement coursework requirements can differ slightly between colleges, but the broad strokes are the same. In order to take an advanced placement course, you must meet all of the specific course requirements of the college you're applying to. This includes having a certain GPA or grade point average, test scores, class rank, and letters of recommendation.Another important part of the course placement requirements is your application. It's imperative that you're able to write a strong and convincing placement resume. A good placement application will show both your personal and academic accomplishments, as well as your ability to connect with the college's community and professors. The placement course is not a fast track to admission. Though it may indicate that you have the personal and academic ability to succeed in college, the place of your application at a college can still depend on where the college is located and what sort of courses they offer. To ensure your placement application is seen as a positive feature of your application, take the time to study the requirements and carefully craft a well-written application. After you've completed your placement course work, it's time to get into the application process. You'll want to create a well-researched and well-formatted placement resume, which clearly shows your academic qualifications and a ccomplishments. While an application is the first place you'll likely be seen by the college, it's important to make sure you know how to effectively use it to your advantage. One good way to use your placement application is to simply state your interest in the college. While it's important to state your interest in the program at hand, it's also important to state how much you've already learned about the program. For example, if you're interested in taking more advanced math classes, it's also important to state that. That will help you stand out from the thousands of other applicants who apply for the same programs. The best way to successfully take advantage of your placement has a file is to follow the same format as you would in preparing your entire application. On top of filling out a cover letter and essay, you can use your placement application to highlight your personal experience and your academic achievements. You should also try to be creative in the way you present you rself, especially when it comes to your resume. Include any photos of yourself you'd like, as well as any professional references who can vouch for your credentials. If you've already done all of the preparation required, you'll still want to take the time to understand the placement resume process, and to be prepared to craft a persuasive and well-written application. By giving yourself the proper resources, you'll be able to give yourself the edge over other applicants.

Introducing the Personal Marketing Plan - Part 1 of 5 - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Introducing the Personal Marketing Plan - Part 1 of 5 - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career This is my first of five posts about what I now call the Personal Marketing Plan. Any successful business has a business plan, which is composed of marketing, operations, finances and so forth. Even products have their own miniature plans crafted by season marketing professionals. Guess what? Your brand should have its own marketing plan. A plan that you can execute for a successful career. When you combine this plan with a development plan, you have mastered the discovery phase of personal branding. Situational Analysis: Where you are currently in your career/life. For example, you would write that youre a student attending Harvard University or a Marketing Associate for Nike. Your current situation is also connected with the amount of resources you have, including your network, personal finances, materials and brand influence. No matter what your age, gender or race is, your brand may have or not have specific skills needed to thrive. That is why you need a plan of attack so that you reach your goals. Mission Statement what is your call to action? Do you want to be promoted to the next level in an organizational hierarchy, write a book or start a blog and how does that fit in your overarching long-term goal? This statement contains your value statement and reason for being. You can compete on price, value, quality, trust, years of experience, specialty skills or even your network, which can provide you with more resources to complete jobs with a faster speed of delivery. You really want to mix your entire brand into one personal brand statement that can be easily digested and repeated by others. Vision Statement Where do you want to be in 10 years? A vision statement describes what your brand is destined to be if you put the work in. Most personal vision statements revolve around being a pioneer in a specific niche, while becoming recognized for personal and corporate achievements. Projected Annual Compensation Although I hate to dwell on money, as I feel that if you lead with your brand compensation will follow, it is still essential to successful living and enjoyment. How much is your brand currently worth? Are you paid with a salary, by hour or by project (contract)? Either way, you should calculate exactly what you take in for revenue each year, along with expenses and bottom-line profit after taxes. Where do you hope to be in 2, 5, 10, 15 years? Are you going to get an MBA or start your own company with venture capital? These are all questions that will transpire as you delve into your future income projection. When you view compensation, try and focus both on the number, along with the benefits, such as health care, which hold value as well. Not everyone makes a million dollars in 5 years, so be realistic with your projections. To project, set a growth percentage that you will grow your current salary by. If youre unemployed, then you start at zero and c annot use that formula until you have a base salary. Personal Life cycle Instead of a product life cycle, much like most traditional marketing plans have, I think there is a personal life cycle that correlates to where you are at different points in your career, as well as life. The personal life cycle revolves around where your brand is currently, not how old you are, much like the human life cycle, which we learn about in high school. You ask what can push me through this life cycle from introduction to decline? Its based on how recognizable your personal brand is, as well as influence, power, trust, level of engagement with others and the total combined force and reach of your audience. Here are the four parts: Introduction: You have developed your brand at a specific location, such as your school, online with a blog or with your employer. A small fraction of people may know who you are and others are getting used to your presence (feeling you out). People are not sure if they can trust you or the information you provide during this time. Few people are aware of what your brand could produce, so you must prove yourself time and time again (there is no promise for delivery yet). Growth: Your brand is starting to gain recognition and momentum, as you learn new skills in your niche and can provide more value. You are starting to be perceived as knowledgeable and people are starting to make remarks about you to their peers. People start inviting you to events to speak. Your blog gains traffic, your subscription count multiplies and youre highlighted in a few traditional and new media outlets. Note that during your growth stage, you will face competition in your niche and will have to counter by making tighter relationships and establishing trust. Maturity: You are spending most of your time speaking at events and handling clients needs. You start investing more time with your family (if you have kids and are married) and less working on self-promotion. Just like a Ferrari or cruise ship, your brand markets itself and is a legacy. It costs you less to make more. You have a Wikipedia page and win a few awards, but youre really focusing on saving up for retirement. Decline: Youre about to execute your exit strategy and either pass down the business to your child or sell it to a larger company for ten times what it was worth years ago. Your brand will always linger in Google and you may choose to keep blogging or participating in the discussion along the way, serving as a mentor and resource for all of those that want to hopefully fill your shoes someday.

5 Ways to Write a Resume Skills Section

5 Ways to Write a Resume Skills Section The skills section of a resume plays a very important role for two reasons. You show a good work ethic by having a skill the company needs. You show the hiring team skills that contributed to previous companies. This post explains 5 ways to make your resume skills section stand out. This is important when you decide to start applying for jobs. You know very well that you will not be the only job applicant.Usually, the better payingthe job is, the higher the competition. The pressure is on you to build your resume to attract recruiters or hiring managers. What to Consider for the Resume Skills SectionWhen you start writing your skills list, think of the questions you will likely need to answer during the interview. For example, you should be prepared to explain:How you learned those skills How these skills contributed to your previous positionIf you can, you'll want to give clear examples to prove your proficiency. The Most Popular Skills for Your ResumeThere are two types of skills that you can include in your resume.Hard skills are the ones related to the industry you operate in.Usually, these are the technical skills that you learned in school and developed in your previous jobs.Soft skills (aka“people skills”) show your ability to be part of a team and collaborate with other departments and divisions.Below, find the top 5 most popular hard and soft skills that recruiters look at:Top 5 Hard skills:Graphic design SEO Data Analysis Bookkeeping Programming languagesTop 5 Soft skills:Communication Creativity Teamwork Organization AdaptabilityRead more detailed information on hard and soft skills for a resume.5 Ways to Write a Resume Skills Section1. BrainstormWhen you start drafting your resume or CV, even if you have rich experience, it may be hard to synthesize everything in a way that is interesting to recruiters. If you feel blocked when you reach the skills section, pause for a second and start brainstorming. How can you find the skills that best describe you? Did you participate in any competition and win a notable award?Think of your college years. Consider the areas you excelled in during your education or previous job to find the right skills to include in your CV.You can reach out to a former colleague or supervisor and have a straightforward talk with them to discover their opinion of you. They can help you identify top skills that will impress future employers.2. Take a look at the job descriptionBefore you apply for a job, you should read the job description carefully. You may be a professional candidate and have plenty of skills to talk about. However, this doesn’t mean that recruiters will be interested in all your skills. On the contrary, showing too many skills may raise question marks in their heads as they may interpret that you aren’t proficient in any of them.If you want to catch a recruiter'sattention, tailor your resume for each job.Only include those skills that are required in the job description. If the description doesn ’t offer many details, look at the company’s values and mission; you will find information to help you create an appealing skills list.3. Include your skills in other sections as wellYour previous work experience is also a good place to showcase your best skills. While you mention them in your skills section, you can give clear examples of them in the work experience section of your resume. For instance, if you want to show recruiters that you communicate well, try submitting a sample of your cover letters that converted to job interviews.Convince prospective employers of your leadership skills by mentioning the team you leadin your current job and the achievements you obtained together. You can also tweak your experience section based on the job description.First, outlinethe most relevant skills that match the job requirements. Then, based on the list you created, build your experience section and give relevant examples from your past positions.4. Don’t exaggerateEven though a ri ch CV can increase your chances to land a job, this doesn’t mean you should exaggerate or lie about skills if you don’t actually have them.Your CV may look impressive, but any lie will be discovered at some point.Recruiters will ask you details about the skills you mention in your resume. If you don’t have clear examples or arguments to support your explanations, they will likely realize that you exaggerated (or lied) in your CV.You likely won't get further than that first interview. On the other hand, if you pass the interviews and you get hired based on misleading information, you might make serious mistakes in your future job.Your managers would be disappointed, and you might jeopardizeyour career. In short, falsifying information is simply not worth it.5. Stay away from clichésWhen you apply for a job, be aware that recruiters read multiple CVs every day. They read the same phrases again and again, so they are difficult to impress. If, when reading your CV, they see just anoth er boring application that includes the same words and phrases, they will just roll their eyes and move on.Butif they read your CV and notice that, even though you have the same skills as many other applicants, you put effort into staying away from clichés, your chances will increase. When All Is Said and DoneTake your time and target your skills section for each job you apply to. Keep a fair proportion between both soft and hard skills. Support your skills with relevant examples from previous work experience. Show prospective employers that you can be a valuable team member. If you'd prefer to leave your resume and cover letter in the hands of professionals, we can help.Find My Professionoffers a top-rated professional resume writing service.Job searching is hard enough as it is.
